Opcon: Subsidiary wins major order for Scottish biomass powered CHP plant and wood pellet production
Saxlund International Ltd, a subsidiary of Opcon, the energy and environmental technology Group, has been awarded a major order from Land Energy Ltd who are one of the leading producers of wood pellets in the UK.
The contract is for the design, installation and commissioning of a biomass fired furnace with thermal oil heater for Land Energy’s new wood pellet production facility located near Girvan in Scotland. This is the first major order in the UK for a Saxlund bioenergy power plant designed to make wood fuel pellets for sale and electricity via the Organic Rankine Cycle system.
Land Energy’s onsite biomass combined heat and power plant rated at 12,5 MW thermal will supply process heat and electricity to the new wood pellet factory. This will supply enough wood pellets for the equivalent of up to 15,000 homes with sufficient energy for all their heating and hot water requirements.
The order value for Saxlund’s scope of the project is in the 30-40 MSEK range with delivery set to mid 2012. “We are very pleased to have been awarded this contract with Land Energy” says Frank Boyles, Managing Director of Saxlund International Ltd based in Southampton. “It demonstrates the quality and competence of our engineering and project management and our ability to be cost effective in a competitive market. It is also a testament to the customer benefit our products offer”, says Frank Boyles, Managing Director, Saxlund International Ltd.
Saxlund International Ltd is part of Opcon Bioenergy and Opcon’s Renewable Energy business area and its focus on Waste to Value with a special emphasis on Waste Heat Recovery and bioenergy. Within the bioenergy sector, Opcon Bioenergy offers a wide range of services, from design of complete biomass fired CHP plants to handling systems and combustion plants under the Saxlund brand.
Under its Renergi brand, Opcon supplies systems for treatment and improved energy efficiency to biomass-powered district heating plants, sawmills, pellets manufacturers and commercial greenhouses, as well as treatment equipment for industrial plants and drying systems for biomass. The Group also supplies Opcon Powerbox for production of green electricity based on hot water or saturated steam.
