Svenska Rotor Maskiner (SRM), the development company within Opcon, the energy and environmental technology Group, has received an order from a leading company with a strong global presence within systems for upgrading biogas to fuel gas.

The agreement includes an order for special adaption and production of an energy-efficient compressor recently developed by SRM that will be a key component of a new upgrading system for biogas that will significantly reduce costs compared with traditional systems.

“The competence we have within energy and environmental technology opens up many interesting areas where we can create technical solutions that significantly reduce costs and increase energy efficiency in systems. This is a project that suits the structure we are establishing for our Renewable Energy business area with development, advanced, high-value production in small series and service. In a couple of years this business alone has the potential to grow to around SEK 10-20 million per year,” says Rolf Hasselström, President and CEO of Opcon AB.

When upgrading from biogas to fuel gas the digester gas from waste is treated so that the gas can be used as fuel in a vehicle. Compared with petrol or diesel engines, the CO2 emissions from a biogas engine are reduced by almost 100%.
