Opcon forms a new activity area – Opcon Energy Systems – focused on technology for generating electricity from surplus heating

Following a decision by the Board of Directors of the Opcon Group, Opcon is forming a new activity area that will utilise unique technology for generating electricity from surplus heating. The technology has been developed by Svenska Rotor Maskiner, a subsidiary of Opcon. The new activity area will be called Opcon Energy Systems and will focus on the heating and power generation industries and the process industry. The market potential is significant, with the Swedish market alone worth several hundred million Swedish kronor per year. “Several years of technical development by Svenska Rotor Maskiner lie behind this new venture. We consider that rising electricity prices are a clear sign that interest will grow for more energy-efficient processes and utilisation of hidden energy potential,” says Rolf Hasselström, President and CEO of the Opcon Group. Opcon Energy Systems will operate as a separate company within the Mechanics business area. If the market potential is fully realised, Opcon will consider making this activity a business area within the Group in future. “I think we could reasonably soon see Opcon Energy Systems as a separate business area with sales similar to our other business areas,” says Rolf Hasselström.
