Opcon signs agreement with industrial group to deliver systems for generating electricity from surplus heat

Energy and environmental technology Group Opcon has signed an agreement with a major Swedish industrial company to deliver systems for generating electricity from surplus heat using the ORC technology developed by Opcon.

The agreement paves the way for a survey of opportunities for installing Opcon Energy Systems (OES) technology for generating electricity from surplus heat at all of the sites operated by the industrial group. Work on two installations will begin immediately. This is the first customer for Opcon Energy Systems.

At least 15 Opcon Energy Systems ORC units could be installed if the customer decides to implement the technology at all its sites. The final number will be agreed following a technical assessment. Each unit has capacity of around 3,500 MWh per year and the investment value per unit is around SEK 6-8 million.

“This is a breakthrough for Opcon’s newly formed Renewable Energy business area and its subsidiary, Opcon Energy Systems. References in the form of this order and the agreement with our partner form a strong platform for future growth, says Rolf Hasselström, President of Opcon.

“The technology that we have developed for generating electricity from surplus heat has a number of large applications globally in the process, power and marine sectors. We will now step up our marketing activities and move forward with our efforts in energy and environmental technology within our Renewable Energy business area,” adds Rolf Hasselström.
