Svensk Rökgasenergi, (SRE), a subsidiary of Opcon AB, has secured a breakthrough order for its flue gas treatment system for an entirely new customer application, treatment of complex flue gases in heavy industry. The order is worth slightly less than SEK 9 million and is a foothold into an entirely new customer segment. The customer is SMA Mineral AB and their lime works in Boda has tested a smaller system over a two year period. SMA Mineral generates sales of approx. SEK 700 million and is one of the largest producers of lime products in Northern Europe and Bulgaria, with almost 20 different production facilities.

- “This is an important step in our environmental work. SMA Mineral makes high demands in relation to the treatment systems we use. It concerns both the standard of treatment and the operational reliability of the facility. After having tested Svensk Rökgasenergi’s system here in Boda for two years, we feel that we have ensured that the system satisfies our high demands", says Leif Norlander, Technical Director at SMA Mineral AB.

- “This is yet another entry point to an entirely new customer segment for our energy and environmental technology which increases the growth opportunities in the future. In addition, treatment of flue gases in heavy industry is a market that is growing internationally as authorities around the world make higher demands in relation to treatment. The fact that Boda lime works in Sweden, with its high demands, is buying the system after having tested it for two years means that we have already gained an important reference within this type of processing industry", says Rolf Hasselström, President and CEO of Opcon AB.

SRE’s system, System Renergi is based on recycling heat through flue gas condensation and means significantly reduced emissions as well as large energy savings. Historically, the most important market has been biomass-powered district heating plants where SRE has about 70-80 installations principally in Sweden and Northern Europe with energy savings of up to 25-30 percent. SRE has recently also penetrated new customer segments such as commercial greenhouses and now also heavy industry and has a share of exports of approx. 50 percent. The low-temperature Renergi LTD drier has also been added to the system, which utilises waste heat for drying biomass at pellets producers, among others.
