Saxlund International Ltd, a subsidiary of Opcon AB, the energy and environmental technology Group, is now preparing to commence construction on the flagship material handling contract won late 2013 for Britain's leading independent producer of cement and readymix concrete, Hope Construction Materials.

As part of Hope’s move to replace fossil fuels with more sustainable solutions, Saxlund will provide an alternative fuel system for the storage, transportation, weighing & injection of Solid Waste Fuel (SWF) to the two kilns at Hope’s Derbyshire cement plant, Hope Valley, UK. The plant which was part of the formation of Hope Construction Materials in January 2013, is the largest cement plant in the UK and has been in operation since 1929.

Saxlund’s scope includes supplying the design, manufacture and delivery of a push floor storage system, reclaim conveyor, process tower with drum magnet, star screen and feed into the weighing and pneumatic injection system to the main burner on both kilns.

“We’ve worked hard to expand our portfolio in this sector and provide clients with some of the best solutions in the market. It’s good to work with clients like Hope, who are doing as much as they can to run their businesses as efficiently and sustainably as possible. With increasing costs of fossil fuels and the increasing range of waste-derived fuels available, Hope is keen to use more and more alternative fuels in order to reduce their energy costs and improve environmental performance where possible. “, says Rob Leighton, Business Development Manager for Alternative Fuel Systems at Saxlund.

Saxlund and SRE are leading bioenergy brands and a part of Opcon’s Renewable Energy business area and its Waste To Value initiative with a special focus on Waste Heat Recovery and bioenergy. Within the bioenergy sector, Opcon offers everything from the design of complete combined heat and power (CHP) plants to handling systems and incineration plants under the Saxlund brand. Under the SRE brand, systems are supplied for treatment and improved energy efficiency for bioenergy-powered district heating plants, sawmills, pellets producers and commercial greenhouses. The offer also
includes flue gas condensation equipment for industrial activities. The Opcon Group also supplies Opcon Powerbox for production of green electricity produced from hot water or wet steam.
