Finland builds a new eco village comprised of ten detached houses with environmentally friendly underfloor heating, which is the first of its kind in Europe.
What makes the project truly unique is that the village is run entirely on renewable energy and is not connected to the national power network. The village shows that it is possible to conserve energy, and that in using renewable sources of energy it does not comprise the comfort and aesthetics of housing.
The houses in the village receive their electrical and heat energy by wood chips and wind power. The gas is burnt through a wood gas generator and the heat is created through the waste heat created as a by-product of electricity. The intention behind building the village is to conserve precious energy and to make use of energy sources, as well as to build a sense of communal spirit.
A spokesman speaking on behalf of the company which built the eco village has said;
“The houses in the area have been built to a low-energy standard. The heating is underfloor heating based on water circulation and all the technical solutions use electricity- saving solutions,”
Each house within the village has a 700 litre water tank which quickly provides the houses their water. Producing water of a low temperature is simple to do by using the heat which is wasted through the production of electricity- eliminating the need for separate heat production.
