Gorillas at a wildlife park in Jersey will soon have electric underfloor heating installed in their enclosure courtesy of a new sponsorship deal.
The Gorillas that live at the Durrell wildlife park in Jersey will be lowering their giant, furry carbon footprint while keeping their feet warm, due to a new £30,000 sponsorship deal to provide more environmentally friendly heating inside their enclosure.
To date, an oil-fired burner operates the floor heating inside the Gorillas cage, but soon this will be traded for a new heat pump system. The underfloor heating project has been co-financed by the Jersey Electricity Company, who donated 20,000 and Scottish Power Green Energy Trust who donated a further 10,000.
This trust supports the development of environmentally friendly energy sources around the country, helping to reduce our nation’s dependence on fossil fuels and counteract climate change.
The sponsorship deal has caused some controversy as critics have contested that this vast sum of money is a waste to spend on under floor heating for gorillas- who would not have such luxuries if they were living in their natural habitat.
