Beer for the beer garden and beyond

The Lamb, Berkhamsted, is a traditional public house with beams and wood-burning stoves, a great welcoming atmosphere and a vast selection of beers, wines and spirits along with hearty home-made food. It’s one of the oldest pubs in Berkhamsted and in summertime is especially popular as it has a well-appointed beer garden.

One problem with beer gardens is the beer! More often than not customers have to come inside to get their drinks and jostle for position at the bar. This can act as a deterrent to people returning for repeat orders and the pub may be losing sales.

In order to solve this problem and so that customers don’t have to come inside to the main bar to get a drink, the publican at The Lamb, Phil Lampey, has built a small bar in his beer garden equipped with a True TDD-3 direct draw beer dispenser.

“I needed a solution to take the pressure off my main bar during busy periods, but didn’t want to just offer bottled beer in my outside bar area,” says Phil Lampey. “So I purchased a True TDD-3 direct draw beer dispenser.”

The TDD-3 is a free-standing draught beer dispenser that is easy to set up wherever an additional bar area is needed. It holds three 11 gallon kegs at one time to keep a steady supply over a long serving period. Once in position, the unit chills draught beer rapidly. When serving, cold air is directed into the beer column to reduce foaming and wastage.

This has proved so popular with my customers that I purchased another three TDD-1 single keg units which I hire out for their private functions, BBQ’s and parties,” Phil Lampey explains. “The bonus with this is I also increase my sales by supplying the keg as well. So I’m selling beer to customers who wouldn’t have been in the pub on these particular days or evenings.”

James Dufficy of Cool Beers, who supplied the TDDs to The Lamb, says, “People are always surprised at just how easy the True beer dispenser is to use. Phil at The Lamb realised he could turn this to his advantage and expand his operation by buying three more to hire out. Due to the reasonable fee he charges for this service, Phil has seen a quick return on his investment.”

All TDD units are self-contained, easy to clean and maintain with wipe clean stainless steel counters. They can be supplied as static units or with castors for increased mobility. The TDD-3 holds up to 3 x 11 gallon kegs and measures 940mm high x 1756mm wide x 689mm deep. TDD-1 holds 1 x 11 gallon keg and measures 1010 high x 597 wide x 794 deep and includes castors.
