New 10 gigabit Ethernet and USB connectors and cable assemblies conform to industrial and military standards

Weybridge, UK, 20 June 2012: TT electronics has extended its rugged interconnect portfolio with new products offering guaranteed performance and data rates up to 10Gbit/s in harsh industrial and military environments. Developed in response to customer requests, the mil spec high speed RJ45 & USB connector systems incorporate ABAC (MILDTL-38999 series III) or AB05 (MIL-DTL-26482) derived metal shells with full 360 degree EMC and mechanical protection.

The new connectors provide the highest reliability through environmental sealing, enhanced mechanical protection and EMC performance. Across the range, all-metal housings ensure the toughest thermal resilience, enabling operation from - 40°C to +120°C. Additionally, the ultra-high speed connector, ABAC R6A, enables data rates up to 10Gbit/s for CAT6a mil-spec networks.

The AB05 R6 bayonet connectors are supplied with a high performance RJ connector which is matched to the AB05 housing to guarantee mechanical, environmental and electrical performance. They provide up to 1Gbit/s transmission for CAT6e structured cabling, enabling fast data rates for 10 BASE-T, 100 BASE-TX, and 1000 BASE-T networks. Receptacles are offered in square or jam nut formats, along with complementary Type 60 cable plugs and protective caps.

These connectors feature reliable bayonet coupling with audible snap and visual indicators, 100N retention of the RJ45 in the plug, and operation over a minimum of 500 mating cycles. Shock and vibration resistant, the connectors are also sealed to IP68 against fluid and dust ingress – equivalent to 2 hours immersion at 1m depth. The AB05 connectors are ideally suited to industrial applications including robotics, process control, CNC machines, oil & gas, motion control, advanced motorway and highway indicators, signage systems, mass transit and traction.

Equivalent ABAC R6 mil-spec connectors feature RJ connectors that are grounded to the outer connector shell and to the panel to provide outstanding EMI/RFI screening performance. Their robust metallic shells are based on MIL-DTL-38999 III and provide dependable three-start threaded coupling with anti-vibration ratchets and visual indicators. With multiple insert orientations, the connectors can be mated and interchanged with connectors from other manufacturers including Amphenol RJFTV. Applications for the mil-spec connectors and cord sets range from battlefield communication systems, through radar and surveillance systems in fighting vehicles, missile systems and naval applications.

Alongside these RJ-45 connectors, TT electronics is also introducing a threaded connector for USB 1.0 and 2.0 transmissions. ABAC UA connectors are supplied with a high performance USB 2.0 cord set, which is matched to the ABAC housing to guarantee the highest mechanical, environmental and electrical performance. Data rates are up to 480Mbit/s.
