Non-contact Power Steering Torque Sensor saves fuel
Weybridge, UK, 3 December 2012: TT electronics’ new non-contact power steering torque sensor uses less current and is smaller and lighter than existing solutions, helping to make electronic power steering systems more compact, reliable and efficient.
Designed to sense very small differential angles, the new TT electronics SX-4428 Magnetorque II non-contact steering torque sensor is based on Hall Effect technology. The innovative free floating torque rotor within the device offers infinite rotational life. The lack of torque rotor friction means it does not wear out as in previous devices thus improving reliability and extending product life expectancy.
The new sensor from TT electronics, enables the end user to program output levels and reduce the use of tight tolerances in the steering shaft thereby reducing shaft machining costs . The compact packaging and lightweight construction mean both space and weight are saved in the overall steering system. Supply current is less than 21 mA which contributes to system efficiency.
The smaller packaging and internal structure has enabled TT electronics to reduce the amount of plastic used in the SX-4428 by 42%. The sensor fits with TT electronics’ philosophy of reducing waste and unnecessary packaging, as well as helping its customers achieve their environmental goals.
Operational from -40oC to +85oC and resistant to shock and vibration the new non-contact sensor provides both a technical and environmental solution for demanding advanced electric power steering systems.
