Report this content

Each summer a number of new bikinis are available, but with so much choice out there it’s hard to know where you stand.

Follow these top bikini fashion trends from leading swimwear and online bikini shop specialists at www.tucanobeach.com

Estelle Balcou, retail and marketing manager at Tucano Beach offers her top tips for bikini success;

“Mixing things up a bit can be great fun when it comes to find the best swimwear: it’s always good to have two different styles for tops and bottoms.

“For example a simple black top could work well with little animal print shorts or a navy blue bottom with an aqua blue tankini top would be very on trend. A good bikini buying tip though is try to avoid buying to separate patterns as clashing colours and prints is a massive bikini faux pas.”

Top Bikini Buying Tips

Colours

Strong colours will always be a winner - especially the classic black bikini. Black is slimming, easy on the eye and also looks great as a one piece swimsuit: it can also accentuate your tan, too.

But for those of you who may be a bit bored with black and want something brighter you are in luck.

This summer pinks are very much in. Seafolly’s Goddess Monroe Maillot with pleat details is simply stunning. The dark pink works wonders as a glamorous swimming costume.

Any stand alone bold colour will have heads turning as you stroll across the sand.

If pink isn’t for you, thanks to the Royal Wedding no doubt, royal colours are very much in for summer 2011 with navy blue, bright white and sunrise gold taking centre stage.

Pastels

Traditional with all bikini colour trends are coral and pastel colours. Yellows, lavender, aqua and coral pink are all colours that regularly feature on the bikini palette.   Aqua blue looks fabulous on all skin types and in all forms from swimsuits to tankinis, aqua blue is a staple of the bikini colour palette.

Oceanic colours work well as prints too. Banana Moon Bikinis have a number of soft violet bikini mixed with blue that are perfect for lazing in the sun.

Prints

Graphic & Tropical

Mad spiralling prints inspired by the retro glam of the 1960s and 1970s is making a comeback big style in 2011, with high waist bottoms and paisley prints in all colours of the rainbow. Tropical and graphical prints are hot this summer as large floral prints dominate the all in one swimsuit, whereas optical and triangular shapes take over bikini prints.

Mixed Print

World Safari

World safari is another great print we will see a lot of for the summer of 2011 as we jet off to far away destinations. Get really into the holiday vibe with some worldly prints.  Inspired by Africa, Native America, Morocco and Aboriginal Australia, brick reds and jungle green will be the colours of choice. Moontide have a great Moroccan inspired bikini with a Moroccan ring to centre. The halter neck top looks complete with the Moroccan Trim Tie Hipster bottom.

Nautical

Stripes never go out of fashion and you can always be sure to be the belle of the beach with a nautical themed bikini. The beauty of a striped swim costume or bikini is that you can take a fairly simple concept and jazz it up with multi-colours such as the Banana Moon Sleno Tia Aca. Taking all the elements of your bog standard bikini and making them bright and more fun. With a neck tie nothing could look better.

However if you do want to keep it classic, a red and white nautical look is great for any time anywhere.  The Banana Moon Kalena Movea Happy bikini is so cute with short style bikini bottoms and a bandeau top with a removable tie. The cups are moulded and feature a wrap-around back.
