Tundra Fonder organised the Tundra Sustainable Forum in Karachi, Pakistan, on Thursday, a conference on sustainable investments. The conference was attended by 140 delegates from the country's largest listed companies.

The conference on the themes of the environment, social responsibility and governance was organised in partnership with the Karachi Stock Exchange. The Tundra Sustainable Frontier Fund was launched in August, a fund that invests in new emerging markets, known as frontier markets, including Vietnam, Bangladesh, Nigeria and Pakistan. Tundra Sustainable Frontier is the world’s first fund with this geographic focus that integrates sustainability into its investment process.

Earlier this year Tundra recruited a research team, located in Asia and exclusively dedicated to sustainability issues in frontier markets.

“As a leader in frontier markets, it is natural for us to also take the first step in sustainable investments in frontier markets. Important components of this are training and interaction with local companies,” says Jon Scheiber, CEO at Tundra Fonder, who is in Karachi for the conference.

Among the speakers were three leading Pakistani companies: Karachi Electric, Bulleh Shah Packaging and Lucky Cement.

“Sustainability goes mainstream. Frontier markets will be no exception,“ says Johan Elmquist, a portfolio manager at Tundra and one of the speakers at Tundra Sustainable Forum.

Tundra Fonder is a Swedish asset manager specialising in frontier markets, the new emerging markets. We invest in companies when they are as yet unknown, unavailable or non-transparent to the large mass of ordinary fund managers, but nonetheless more exciting and interesting as investments.
