HPSolartech breaks ground – building new solar parks

Outside of Ronneby, Olofström and Töreboda, HPSolartech has just kicked off the construction of three solar parks generating a total capacity of 14 MW. Earthworks commenced three weeks ago, and the fence around the park is currently being erected. Next week the piles for the solar panel mounts will be driven into the ground.

HPSolartech is developing the new solar farms in Blekinge county and the province of Västra Götaland, transforming previously unused land into fully operational photovoltaic power stations, and will deliver turnkey facilities to the customer. HPSolartech will also provide technical solutions and administrative services during the operational phase.

– “This is part of a larger investment, and the project will generate a significant amount of renewable energy for Blekinge”, says Kenny Fogel, CEO at HPSolartech.

The land areas are carefully selected for the solar farms. The sites need to be large enough and close to power infrastructure. The chosen land areas are challenging to use for farming and forestry, making them extra suitable for solar parks.

By building a greater number of small solar parks, as opposed to only a few large parks – in accordance with HPSolartech’s cluster model – HPSolartech can build faster and easier with less environmental impact and less requirement for expensive infrastructure investments. Using land that cannot be used for farming is essential for HPSolartech. The protection of agricultural land is enshrined in Swedish law. Agricultural land is ideal for solar power, but other land areas are equally suitable for solar farms.

– “We are constantly looking for land where we can build more solar farms”, says Anders Nilsson, Project Development Manager at HPSolartech. “To lease out land for solar parks gives landowners long-term incomes for less valuable land. An area of 3 hectares or greater is suitable to build on”, he says.

The three solar parks are the first phase of a total of 90MW of solar power, that HPSolartech is building together with Sunspark Nordic. The next phase kicks off after the summer of 2022.
