Computas, part of TurnIT Consulting, is increasing the efficiency of Norway's law courts Computas, a subsidiary of TurnIT, has signed an agreement with the department dealing with IT and technical expertise in the Norwegian judicial system (RIFT) to supply a new proceedings handling system for the judiciary in Norway. The system will simplify the handling of proceedings, reduce procedural times and improve access to information for about 1300 judges and other staff. The project will take three years, and the contract price is NOK 57 million. " The aim of the new system is to streamline the work of the courts, county courts and district/magistrates courts, and to guarantee the quality of court proceedings. In addition, the system will include functions to provide improved service and information to the parties involved and to the general public. After a long procurement process, we decided to work in partnership with Computas, since that company has a great deal of experience and a documented ability to make knowledge-based tasks much more efficient" says the Director of RIFT, Per Øystein Andersen. The system will have about 1300 users in almost 100 different units and it will facilitate the processing of a broad spectrum of tasks, such as criminal cases, civil actions and other court procedures. The new court system will be based on Computas' FrameSolutions . Computas has developed unique technology, and has a great deal of experience of systems that support knowledge-intensive tasks. The system can be adapted to suit different categories of employees and their specific tasks. Computas has already supplied the Norwegian judicial authorities with systems to improve the effectiveness of the administration of the police service, the Supreme Court, the enforcement service Norad, the Norwegian Research Council and the Ministry of Health and Social Security. "As a result of this agreement, we will have almost 15,000 users of FrameSolutions in Norway" says Computas' President, Lasse Fjell. "What makes this contract particularly exciting is that we now have solutions for the whole judicial system, from the police authorities through the law courts to the Supreme Court. This is an excellent launching pad for international expansion in this area, and we have already had enquiries from abroad. Computas represents the Norwegian operations of TurnIT's business area Consulting.
