TurnIT subsidiary Fiberdata installs broadband in the countryside

TurnIT subsidiary Fiberdata installs broadband in the countryside Fiberdata AB - a subsidiary of TurnIT - has signed a master agreement for the delivery of communications equipment for the installation of a regional broadband network intended to link 40 towns and villages in the County of Gävleborg. The equipment supplied will be based largely on DTM technology, and the contract has a potential value for Fiberdata of over SEK 100 million. RegNet is a joint project involving the municipalities in the County of Gävleborg and the County Council, with the aim of creating a competitive and operator-independent IT infrastructure in the County of Gävleborg. The purpose of the project is to increase capacity, especially in the smaller towns and villages in the county, for IT communication, and to create an active competitive situation which will bring prices to the same level as in the cities. The project involves the installation of the physical infrastructure in the form of a fiber-optic cable network between about 40 towns and villages in the county, reaching up to 1.6 million people. This county-wide circuit will then be linked to the operator-rich Stockholm area, via Svenska Kraftnät's Norrland Rectangle. This will allow people to utilize the competition between operators which functions optimally in the major cities, while eliminating the rural areas' distance handicap. The idea is to route the network through as many small towns and villages as possible, to construct a network that will be useful in the long term.
