Astar Studios has been named as one of four finalists for ‘STUDIO OF THE YEAR’ at the 2013 Pro Sound Awards to be held at London’s Ministry of Sound on Thursday 19th September, the music production equivalent of the Brit Awards.

The recording studio located near Manchester, in Heywood, Lancashire in the northwest of the UK, was positioned among 4 of Europe’s top recording studios for the highly prestigious award by a panel of independent judges - experts drawn from across the pro-audio spectrum, who will now deliberate over the shortlisted nominations before choosing the winner to be announced at the awards ceremony.

Astar Studios was opened 5 years ago by international songwriter and producer Andy Ross who aimed to make hi-end recording affordable for all and bring services relevant to the modern day music industry under one roof. Astar has achieved this thanks to innovations in studio design and business practice including introducing the UK’s first ever 0% Recording Loans Scheme.

The studio was purpose built inside an industrial unit and designed to combine versatile live room acoustics inspired by the sound of analogue studios of the 60s and 70s, with the latest digital control room technology; a vision endorsed by a Mercury Music Prize nomination in 2010 for the much acclaimed acoustic jazz trio album ‘Golden’ by pianist Kit Downes who has since become one of the hottest properties on the UK jazz scene and will feature on the 2013 Yamaha New Jazz Sessions CD (Out Dec) - the sixth album in the series to be produced by Andy Ross since 2008. Featured on the Christmas cover of Jazzwise Magazine, sales this year will reach 100,000 copies. Another highlight for 2013 is the release this autumn of a new version of Style Council classic ‘The Paris Match’ by Manchester songstress Kristyna Myles – already being described by modfather Paul Weller as ‘Absolutely stunning!”

Astar Studios caters for new, current and established artists across a diverse range of genres from Classical to Jazz, Rock and Pop - all meticulously recorded and produced by Andy Ross who also writes and co-writes for many projects. Andy has established a dedicated creative team to support artist projects, comprising some of the UK’s most in-demand session musicians, plus leading industry visual and promotional associates. The studio operates a graduate placement programme in association with the University of Huddersfield and partners the Exposure Music Awards and Open Mic UK, with recording opportunities.

Andy Ross stated, “I could hardly believe the news when I heard it and am so proud and delighted that the quality of this studio and the uniquely innovative approach we have taken at Astar has been recognised and honoured at the highest level by the Pro Sound Awards. At Astar we aim to provide artists with an enjoyable and uplifting recording experience in a creative environment where they can focus, express themselves freely and feel inspired to produce their best performance."
