PIANISTS MARINA NADIRADZE AND PHILLIP JENKINS TUNE UP FOR CLASSIC FUNDRAISING CONCERT IN LONDON

Report this content

The extraordinary and outstanding young Georgian pianist, Marina Nadiradze is to perform a special benefit concert with distinguished pianist Phillip Jenkins at St Katharine's Church in London's Regents Park at 7.30pm on Tuesday 26th July to raise funds for an incredibly brave baby girl currently being treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Ewing's Sarcoma - a very rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Sigrún Lára was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma this Spring when she was only five months old. Described as a lovely, cheery little girl she now faces eight months of intensive chemotherapy and hospital visits and in the long term, her prognosis is uncertain – only two children under the age of one are diagnosed each year in the UK – but the risk of relapse and further treatment is significant.

On Tuesday 26th July discerning music lovers attending this unique fundraising event at the beautiful St Katharine's Church located at 4 St Katharine's Precinct, Regents Park, London, NW1 4HH, where Sigrún's parents were married will not only have the opportunity to show their support for such a deserving cause, but also hear two of the most exciting pianists of their generation perform an inspired programme including solo works by Schubert, Chopin and Ravel, as well as pieces by Mozart, Dvorak and Lennox Berkeley for piano duet that Marina will perform with husband Phillip Jenkins who is Sigrún Lára's grandfather.

The piano for this concert is generously being supplied by Yamaha Music (UK). Yamaha pianos have become an increasingly popular feature on the world’s concert platforms and Marina Nadiradze recently performed Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major (K. 467) on a specially commissioned Yamaha CFIIIS Concert Grand Piano, as soloist with the Milton Keynes City Orchestra, conducted by Hilary Davan Wetton.

Marina Nadiradze is one of the world's leading young concert pianists who has achieved considerable success in prestigious international competitions. She has given concerts in many countries around the world including France, Switzerland, Russia, Iceland, Austria, South Korea and Georgia, and in the UK she has given solo recitals at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester and the Wigmore Hall in London. Her performances have received great critical acclaim and an article in 'The Independent' has compared her playing to that of the great Mitsuko Uchida.  After a distinguished playing career, Phillip Jenkins is now widely recognised as one of Britain's leading teachers and is Professor of Piano at the Guildhall School of Music in London. Phillip frequently gives masterclasses at many of the world's leading conservatoires.
