UCSB Announces Steven Chu as Featured Keynote Speaker at 2013 Summit on Energy Efficiency
U.S. Secretary of Energy Chu will give the opening keynote address to science and technology leaders from industry, government and academia at May 2013 conference hosted by Institute for Energy Efficiency
The Institute for Energy Efficiency at University of California, Santa Barbara, has announced that Steven Chu, Secretary of Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy, will be the opening keynote speaker for its Summit on Energy Efficiency to be held May 1 and 2, 2013, in Santa Barbara. Other confirmed keynote speakers include Michael McQuade, Senior VP for Science and Technology at United Technologies Corporation, and George Crabtree, Director of the newly established DOE Battery Hub at Argonne National Laboratory.
The theme for the 2013 summit will be “Materials for a Sustainable Energy Future,” bringing together more than 300 leaders from industry, government, and academia at the helm of research efforts in energy efficiency technology. Sessions will focus on materials-related challenges and opportunities in key areas of energy efficiency research, including energy storage, lighting, critical materials for energy technologies, and high efficiency power electronics.
Past summit speakers include Bill Brinkman, Director of the Office of Science, U.S. Department of Energy; Matt Rogers, Director with McKinsey & Company; Dan Reicher, Director of Climate Change and Energy Initiatives at Google; Richard Newell of the U.S. Energy Information Administration; Michael Peevey, President of the California Public Utilities Commission; Justin Rattner, CTO of Intel; and Dick Swanson, founder and retired President of SunPower.
