Three UT Arlington kinesiology faculty earn national honors
Three University of Texas at Arlington kinesiology faculty members will be honored for their work in the field of athletic training at the June meeting of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
Cynthia Trowbridge, an associate professor, is one 16 athletic trainers nationwide selected to receive the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award. Paul Krawietz, clinical assistant professor, is one of of 54 selected for the Athletic Trainer Service Award and Louise Fincher, chair of the kinesiology department at UT Arlington, will receive the Gail Weldon Award of Excellence.
“That three athletic training professionals from UTA are receiving awards speaks to the environment that has been created there,” said Kathy Dieringer, a member of the NATA board of directors who represents Texas and Arkansas. “I am proud to call these award winners professional colleagues and friends, and UTA is fortunate to have them. They are outstanding examples of how important it is to give back to your profession through service and leadership.”
Trowbridge came to UT Arlington in 2004 and serves as clinical education coordinator for the Athletic Training Education Program. Trowbridge has published research on clinical training techniques as well as effectiveness of CPR performance. She has also been involved with the U.S. Olympic Committee and traveled internationally for the committee, as well as USA Basketball. The Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award she will receive recognizes members who have been involved in service and leadership activities at the national and district level.
Krawietz came to UT Arlington in 2006 and is director of the University’s Athletic Training Education Program. He has been heavily involved in efforts to educate junior high and high school coaches and school nurses about spotting concussions and treating them. He helped develop an online concussion education program that has been viewed more by more than 6,000 Texas school employees. The Athletic Trainer Service Award he is receiving recognizes volunteer efforts at the local and state level.
Fincher, who came to UT Arlington in 2000, has served in leadership positions in the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association and the National Athletic Trainers Association. She also has published extensively and made numerous presentations on education for athletic trainers. The Gail Weldon award is given to one person each year who has shown “an exceptional commitment to mentoring, professional development and life balancing for women athletic trainers or significant contributions to improve the health care of females provided by athletic trainers,” according to the association.
