UT Arlington nursing professor receives National League for Nursing honor
The National League for Nursing has selected Maxine Adegbola, an assistant professor of nursing at The University of Texas at Arlington, as one of 32 Academy of Nursing Education Fellows for 2012, recognizing her leadership in the health care education field.
“It’s an honor to be recognized nationally and to be chosen as a nurse leader,” Adegbola said. “I want to continue to find ways to help disadvantaged students become successful in nursing, promote student engagement and integrate technology into the learning process.”
Adegbola has been a professor in the College of Nursing since 2008. Her areas of expertise include sickle cell disease, chronic pain, genomics and health disparities. She recently completed a two-year, National Institutes of Health-funded T32 training program. The fellowship was called Pain and Associated Symptoms: Nurse Research Training and was held at the University of Iowa.
The New York City-based National League for Nursing established the Academy of Nursing Education in 2007 “to foster excellence in nursing education by recognizing and capitalizing on the wisdom of outstanding nurse educators,” according to its website. Fellows serve as a resource for the organization and for other educators.
"We are proud to recognize the vision, talent, wisdom, and experience of the 2012 fellows, whose accomplishments will be aptly and publicly reflected by their Academy of Nursing Education Fellows credential," National League for Nursing CEO Beverly Malone said in a statement.
Adegbola and the 31 other honorees will be recognized in September at the national organization’s education summit in Anaheim, Calif.
The University of Texas at Arlington’s College of Nursing is one of the largest and most successful nursing programs the nation. As evidence of the proven curriculum, in 2011 UT Arlington had one of the highest pass rates in the state, 94 percent, for students seeking their initial licensure.
