ARLINGTON, Texas – The University of Texas at Arlington will focus on the academic needs and transitional challenges that face many military veterans undertaking college life, when it hosts its Student Veterans Workshop Series from Sept. 21 to Nov. 30 on the UT Arlington campus.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says as soldiers return from Iraq and Afghanistan and tap into Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits, the number claiming education aid continues to increase.

An average of 525 veterans enrolled at UT Arlington during both the fall and spring 2009 semesters. That number nearly doubled this month with almost 1,100 veterans enrolled in fall 2011 courses.

“The workshop series came about after seeing the rapid increase of this student demographic on campus,” said Roxanna Latifi, student development specialist in University College, a one-stop shop for advising, tutoring and counseling.
