There is still time to sign up for some academic and athletic camps at The University of Texas at Arlington this summer.

For the first time, the University has added Fitness Adventures 101 to its summer camp lineup. The new day camp for ages 6-12 will combine interactive instruction with high-energy fitness activities to enhance campers’ knowledge of health, wellness and nutrition.

“Fitness Adventures 101 will provide kids the opportunity to sample a variety of fitness activities,” said Christopher Ray, director of UT Arlington’s Center of Healthy Living and Longevity and an assistant professor of kinesiology.

It is essential that kids are exposed to diverse activities in order to identify the type of exercise they most enjoy, as enjoyment plays a critical role in one's ability to maintain a fitness regime across the lifespan.”

UT Arlington will host baseball camps the first two weeks in June at Clay Gould Ballpark for kids from kindergarten through 12th grade. Young players will benefit from expert instruction from the entire Maverick Baseball coaching staff, as well as current and former players.

UT Arlington’s sports camp lineup also includes the 2012 Scott Cross Basketball Camps the last two weeks in June for first through 12th graders. The Lady Mavs Basketball Camps include an overnight camp and options for first through 12th grades. All basketball camps are scheduled at College Park Center, UT Arlington’s new 7,000-seat arena.

The University of Texas at Arlington is a comprehensive research institution of almost 33,500 students in the heart of North Texas. Visit www.uta.edu to learn more.
