UTA named to Phi Theta Kappa’s 2017 Transfer Honor Roll
The University of Texas at Arlington is one of only 63 institutions in the nation named to Phi Theta Kappa’s 2017 Transfer Honor Roll. The honor roll recognizes excellence and success in the development of community college transfer pathways.
Phi Theta Kappa evaluated institutions based on the quality of their partnerships and collaborations with community colleges, innovation in developing new transfer pathways, commitment to tracking the success of transfer students, and the level of support available for students before and after they transfer.
“I am extremely proud of the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Honor Roll designation because it recognizes our commitment to all students irrespective of whether they initiated their academic journey at UTA or elsewhere,” said UTA President Vistasp Karbhari. “We pride ourselves on bridging accessibility with excellence at an affordable cost, and our commitment to ensuring that all those who are motivated and desire to work hard and achieve their dreams have an opportunity to do so here. Through our talented faculty and staff, we offer innovative partnerships and programs to help students finish their degrees, no matter where they started their journeys.”
According to a U.S. News and World Report survey of undergraduate programs, UTA is the third-largest destination in the nation for transfer students, and is experiencing tremendous growth at the freshman, transfer, and graduate study levels. Through online and on-campus degree programs, UTA expects to serve 57,000 students across the world this academic year. A record 41,932 of those students are based in Texas. Of the 11,526 degrees UTA conferred in the 2015-2016 academic year, 3,651 degrees were conferred to students who transferred from a two-year college.
“UTA is clearly a school of choice for students from all backgrounds, and one of the biggest reasons is that we’re transfer-friendly,” said Troy Johnson, Vice President for Enrollment Management. “It’s our job to clear the path and remove any barrier that could prevent a student from moving seamlessly from a two-year college to our esteemed four-year institution.”
UTA has the second lowest average student debt of any national university, and during the Fall 2016 semester, 716 new transfer students received scholarships from UTA.
UTA’s smooth transfer process is achieved through innovative partnerships and collaborations with numerous community college.
“UTA has put a lot of useful assets in place specifically for transfer students,” said Andy Hedrick, who transferred to UTA from TCC in 2013. Hedrick graduated from UTA with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 2016. “I would highly recommend UTA to any transfer student looking for their collegiate home.”
