UPM shows its support to the magazine publishing industry

(UPM, Helsinki, 11 November 2019 at 11:00 EET) – UPM Communication Papers is the headline sponsor of the 42nd FIPP World Media Congress on the 12th to 14th November in Las Vegas, Nevada. The FIPP World Media Congress is the largest event in the magazine media industry, gathering over 800 leading media owners and service providers. The Congress features 60+ sessions delivered by more than 100 senior media industry leaders.

“We are delighted to be bringing the Congress to the USA for the first time since 2005,” says James Hewes, President and CEO of FIPP.

This year’s agenda reflects on topics such as evolution of media formats, current and future strategies and revenue models.

“The future of the industry looks bright. There are positive spin-offs as a result of a consolidation phase that went through the industry – such as new players entering the publishing market, new ideas and innovations within existing large publishers, and the birth of new businesses”, says Hewes.

Committed to the industry

“UPM’s partnership with FIPP and the lead sponsor role at the World Media Congress 2019 are testament to our commitment to working in close partnership with the magazine publishing industry,” says Ruud van den Berg, Senior Vice President Magazines, Merchants and Office Business at UPM Communication Papers.

“As the world’s leading producer of graphic papers, UPM, takes a special interest in the future of the magazine publishing industry. Digital products have become a main source of growth. But we can confirm that paper-based magazines and publications have remained an integral part of the media mix. They continue playing a vital role in addressing fast changing consumer needs by providing high quality products with strong potential for differentiation. UPM will continue staying close to our partners in the publishing industry, jointly addressing important trends such as climate change, sustainability and the overall transformation of our societies,” continues Ruud van den Berg.

UPM’s stand, Forest of Innovation, showcases both paper innovations and UPM’s roots. UPM is also the main sponsor and judging panellist of the FIPP Rising Stars and Insight Awards on the 12th of November. On the 13th, Ruud van den Berg will give a presentation on how UPM adapts to the changing world and why paper is the sustainable choice for publications.
