    UPM sells its Chapelle Darblay newsprint mill to the consortium of Samfi and Paprec

    (UPM, Helsinki, 15.10.2021 at 17:30 EEST) – UPM has signed an agreement to sell its Chapelle Darblay newsprint mill site to a consortium of two partners Samfi and Paprec France SAS. The transaction is subject to customary approvals. The sale of Chapelle Darblay is an asset sale, and no personnel will be transferred. UPM has permanently ceased production and agreed a social plan for its employees at its Chapelle newsprint mill in Grand-Couronne, France in June 2020.     UPM permanently closes its Chapelle newsprint mill

    (UPM, Helsinki, 16.07.2020 at 11:00 EET) – UPM will permanently cease production at its Chapelle newsprint mill in Grand-Couronne, France today. The consultation process with employee representatives was completed on June 15[th], 2020 according to French legislation and approved by French authorities on July 15[th], 2020. The closure impacts 228 people. UPM offers support to employees in order to alleviate the effects caused by staff reductions in relation to the closing of the mill. With the closure of the mill UPM will reduce a total of  240.000 tonnes of its newsprint paper

    UPM opens consultation process for potential closure of its Chapelle newsprint mill while continuing the sales process

    (UPM, Helsinki, 28.1.2020 at 11:00 EET) – Earlier, in September 2019, UPM announced the intention to sell its Chapelle newsprint mill in Grand-Couronne, France. It was communicated at the same time, that a process for the potential closure of the mill would be opened in case no credible offer would be received until mid-January 2020. We have started the sales process in September and have been in continuous and substantial discussions with interested parties. While these discussions are still ongoing, we have not received binding offers by potential buyers of the mill to date.

    (UPM, Helsinki, 10 September 2019 at 11:35 EET) - UPM plans to permanently close a SC paper machine in Rauma, Finland and sell its Chapelle newsprint mill in Grand-Couronne, France. If realized, the measures would result in a reduction of 265,000 tonnes of SC capacity and 240,000 tonnes of newsprint capacity in UPM’s portfolio. UPM is committed to maintaining its profitability and actively manages production capacity in line with the structural decline of the graphic paper demand.
