UPS APPOINTS GEORGE WILLIS AS NEW MANAGING DIRECTOR FOR UK, IRELAND & NORDICS
STOCKHOLM, 28 May 2013 – UPS announced today the appointment of George Willis, as the new managing director for UPS UK, Ireland & Nordics, Willis, a 29-year UPS veteran succeeds Cindy Miller, who has recently been appointed president of UPS Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
In his new role, Willis will be responsible for operations, business development and strategy in the UK, Ireland and the Nordic countries of Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Iceland. This UPS district constitutes a large, dynamic market stretching over northern Europe including more than 80 operational centres, 11 air gateways and a workforce of more than 9,500 employees.
“George is a UPSer through and through,” said Miller. “He has served on the front lines and in several key operational and management roles in the United States, and I am excited that he is now bringing his nearly three decades of experience to Europe.. His proven track record in leadership positions and his in-depth understanding of UPS operations will ensure he has a positive impact on this key district for UPS in Europe.”
Willis began his career with UPS in 1984 as a package handler in the U.S. Georgia District. He was promoted to hub manager in 1992 and, after carrying out several operational assignments was promoted to hub division manager in 1999. In 2001, Willis relocated to Colorado as division manager in hub and package operations in the Rocky Mountain District. In 2004, he was promoted to East Carolina district manager and was named South California district manager in 2006. In January 2012, Willis became the U.S. operations manager.
