Reckless Single Women

Every third blind date takes place at home

LOS ANGELES, 14. November 2013 – Singles in the US like to live dangerously, women above all. This was proved by a recent survey of 14,489 online dating site users in the USA and Europe: a whopping 32% of all US users stated that their last blind date took place in a private setting. Furthermore, the majority of single women surveyed arranged for their first meeting with an online acquaintance to be in their own home.

The main rule of thumb when it comes to online dating is: choose a public place for your first date! However, most single people do not seem to take this advice too seriously. The great majority of those looking for a partner online still take the safe route and arrange for the first date to be in a café, bar, restaurant (58%) or another public place. Surprisingly, though, almost a third of American singles are willing to take the risk and meet their new online acquaintance in private.

Moreover, most single women are so bold as to immediately invite their blind date to their home. "Apart from the danger that can arise from such a situation, every woman should be aware that this can also become awkward. What should she do if she doesn't like her new suitor?" says Pamela Moucha of datingsitesreviewed.com.

American women are reckless

If you compare the willingness of American women to take risks on blind dates with the dating hot-spots in Europe, women in the USA come out as prime examples of carelessness. Only women in the Netherlands (34%) and Switzerland (nearly 33%) are more reckless about meeting their online acquaintance in their own home.

Distance encourages private dating

The recklessness of American women is first and foremost due to the long distances that often lie between the cities where online acquaintances live. "The obvious thing for them to do is visit each other" explains Moucha. She goes on to say that this increase cannot be ascribed to targeted "preliminary checks" of the blind date by telephone or Skype.
