BOULDER, Colo. – To  help offer rugby players peace of mind in the event of an accident during gameplay, USA Rugby and Zurich North America Commercial have created an affordable Voluntary Rugby Accident Policy available exclusively to USA Rugby’s registered members.  Clubs, State-Based Rugby Organizations (SBROs), Territorial Unions (TUs), and Local Area Unions (LAUs) can purchase this policy to cover all of their registered members for accidents sustained during sanctioned rugby activities.  Club coverage starts as low as $200. This new voluntary accident coverage was crafted specifically for USA Rugby’s members.

“This new voluntary accident coverage is an enormous benefit to our members,” said USA Rugby CEO, Nigel Melville.  “Clubs, TUs, and LAUs that take advantage of this coverage will be able to rest easier and know that their players will be covered if an accident happens.  In rugby, we know it’s important to take care of one another, so this is a benefit we are very proud of.”

This new plan, available on November 18, 2010, will provide $100,000 in accident coverage to registered members who are injured in sanctioned matches and practices, as well as travel to and from those activities.  This travel coverage is also in effect for participating groups that travel abroad on international tours.

Through Zurich, a leading property and casualty insurer globally and in North America, USAR will offer this new plan to players, regardless of whether they have health care coverage or not.

USA Rugby’s voluntary accident program is only available online at www.usarugby.org. This is the only accident insurance program endorsed by USA Rugby.
