The team from Swindon’s University Technical College will be meeting and greeting engineers of the future at the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford this weekend, Saturday 20 July and Sunday 21 July 2013.

Engineering ambassadors for UTC Swindon will be on hand to talk to thousands of young people who are interested in pursuing a career in the industry. The stand is situated in the Techno Zone alongside stands such as the RAF, Rolls Royce, Airbus and the Bloodhound Supersonic Car.

UTC Swindon will be easy to find – as on display will be the innovative BMW ActiveE, where families can get a hands-on experience of an example of engineering excellence.

Leaflets and prospectuses will be handed out allowing parents and young people to find out about this new offer in technical education and how to apply for places.

Dr Gareth Neighbour, who heads up engineering at Oxford Brookes University and who is designing the UTC’s curriculum, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to find out about this exciting new college for 14 – 19 year olds, which will provide young people with an engineering-focused education and prepare them for careers in a diverse and innovative industry.”

More UTC Swindon team members will also be talking to families at the Marlborough Jazz Festival in the town’s High Street. The UTC Swindon stand will be at the festival on Saturday 20 July and Sunday 21 July 2013.

The UTC Swindon team is attending many large events throughout the summer, sharing information about the University Technical College which opens in September 2014. Would-be students can apply now by calling 07990 601516 or by visiting www.utcswindon.co.uk – many have already done so.

The first entry of students in September 2014 will need to be 14 at the time (currently in Year 8) or 16 or above (currently Year 10 and above). Applications will be accepted from a wide area, including all of Swindon, North Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and West Berkshire.
