Valmet signs service agreements for sludge solids measurements with Turun seudun puhdistamo and Tampere Water in Finland
Valmet Oyj's trade press release on February 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. EET
Valmet has signed service agreements with Turun seudun puhdistamo and Tampere Water in Finland for sludge solids measurements in wastewater treatment. The agreements ensure reliable operation of the measurement equipment throughout its entire lifecycle in complicated dewatering processes.
The Kakolanmäki wastewater treatment plant, owned by Turun seudun puhdistamo and located in Turku, has all together six Valmet Total Solids Measurements (Valmet TS), Valmet Low Solids Measurements (Valmet LS) and Valmet Dry Solids Measurements (Valmet DS).
"These measurements are important to us for the optimization of our sludge drying process. We're targeting good and reliable equipment performance. Our small organization focuses on process operations, while service providers are responsible for equipment maintenance. The equipment manufacturer has the best know-how in measurement service. It is a question about asset management, too. When expensive equipment is serviced regularly, its lifetime is longer, and it keeps its value," says Jyrki Haapasaari, Automation Manager at Turun seudun puhdistamo.
Owned by Tampere Water in Tampere, the Viinikanlahti wastewater treatment plant has a total of seven Valmet Total Solids Measurements (Valmet TS), Valmet Low Solids Measurements (Valmet LS) and Valmet Dry Solids Measurements (Valmet DS). For sludge dewatering, the plant also uses a Valmet SDO Sludge Dewatering Optimizer to optimize the energy and chemicals consumed in centrification.
"The measurements have to be reliable and continually available in order to be beneficial for us. We do not have the expertise that is needed to service this equipment, whereas Valmet as an equipment supplier has," states Ari Oksanen, Machine Maintenance Engineer at Tampere Water, about the service agreement with Valmet.
Preventive and predictive maintenance
According to the service agreements, Valmet draws up a maintenance plan that includes regular maintenance for the solids measurement equipment twice a year. In problem situations, the customers have access to Valmet's technical support by phone. Valmet's technology experts are also able to examine fault diagnostics via a remote connection. If necessary, a Valmet expert will come to the site.
In Tampere, Valmet's experts have a remote connection to the Valmet SDO application at the Viinikanlahti wastewater plant. This allows them to monitor measurement performance remotely and, among others, predict equipment faults based on trends.
Even better reporting and proactive measures with cloud services in the future
"In the future, we will develop our services offering further and utilize the data collected by the measurements from the process even more. We are currently developing remote diagnostics and management of a customer's equipment with our Fleet Management solution based on the Industrial Internet. For example, calibration and diagnostics data from the customer's entire installed base will go directly into the cloud and can be analyzed and used for proactive maintenance and reporting," says Heli Karaila, Business Manager, Wastewater Solutions, Automation, Valmet.
