Administrative Court of Appeal makes positive decision on Lillgrund Wind Farm

The Administrative Court of Appeal today decided to give Vattenfall the opportunity to complete the construction of Lillgrund Wind Farm using the planned height of 115 metres. The Court thus rejected the appeal from the Municipality of Vellinge and a private individual living in the vicinity of the wind farm.

“We are happy to be able to complete construction using the increased height. It means a lot to us. Lillgrund Wind Farm symbolises the fact that Vattenfall’s investment in wind power has begun, and it will be followed by many more wind power projects. Ten metres cannot be seen with the naked eye at this distance from land, but these ten metres are important to the generation capacity of the wind power plants which increases by one per cent per metre,” says Anders Dahl, Head of Vattenfall Wind Power.

“The climate issue is the greatest challenge of our time. We feel that wind power has major advantages as a part of our environmental programme. We are working hard to shoulder our responsibility for more environment-friendly electricity generation. Our ambition is to supply 1.6 million homes with wind power electricity over a ten-year period. An important precondition for this is that the permit process becomes simpler and more flexible,” says Göran Lundgren, Head of Vattenfall Generation Nordic.

The permit process for the Lillgrund Wind Farm in The Sound began in 1997. The final phase of construction is now underway. The foundations, electrical systems and transformers are in place. It is planned to install the wind power plants at the end of the summer. The Lillgrund Wind Farm will generate electricity for 60 000 homes by the end of 2007. It will then be the largest wind farm in Sweden and the third largest in the world.
