Agreement with Vattenfall important part of Norwegian industrial expansion By means of a new long-term supply agreement with Vattenfall, the Norwegian company Sør-Norge Aluminium has ensured that it will have the energy it needs for a considerable expansion of its production. The new agreement applies to the supply of electricity valued at approximately NOK 630 million in the period 2003 to 2012. It covers the increased energy requirement resulting from Sør-Norge Aluminium's decision to extend its production in an expansion programme due to be completed by 2003. The new agreement complements the contract signed by the parties last year for the period 2001-2010. "The agreement will provide valuable support to the present development process with steadily increasing production volumes. It also indicates a trend in which purely commercial agreements will gradually account for an increasing share of our energy supplies as old agreements expire," says Jan O. Yttredal, Administrative Director of Sør-Norge Aluminium AS. "This agreement confirms Vattenfall's position as an important long-term supplier of electricity to the Norwegian process industry. It underlines yet again Vattenfall's willingness and ability to become involved in the competitive Norwegian process industry and to help to adapt conditions for new operations within this industry in Norway," says Bjørn Bruvik, Key Customer Manager at Vattenfall Norge AS. Through its agreements with Norwegian industrial companies, Vattenfall now has a total order portfolio of approximately 56 TWh and sees Norway as an important part of its domestic market.
