EU commission approves of Bewag transaction

EU commission approves of Bewag transaction Stockholm/Berlin. The EU commission on February 4, 2002, notified Vattenfall that it does not object to the acquisition of a 44.8 % interest in the Berlin utility Bewag. In December 2001 Mirant agreed to sell its position in Bewag to the Vattenfall group. The parties are now free to close the transaction. The Vattenfall group already owns a 44.8 % interest in Bewag through its subsidiary Hamburgische Electricitäts-Werke AG (HEW). Vattenfall is currently merging its German operations to build the new entity "Vattenfall Europe", which will operate on the German power market.
