Lars G. Josefsson elected Eurelectric President

Vattenfall’s President and CEO Lars G. Josefsson is the new President of Eurelectric, the association representing the pan-European electricity industry. At the organization’s Annual Conference in Barcelona on 15-17 June, the Board of Eurelectric unanimously elected Mr Josefsson as President with a 3-year mandate.

“A functioning, integrated electricity market can provide a large part of the solution to the global energy-climate challenge. Electricity is the energy solution for the future, and in 2050 the industry shall be CO2 free” Mr Josefsson said, addressing the organization. He also stressed the need to “electrify Europe’s future in an energy-efficient manner” and improve energy efficiency at all levels of society.

Lars G. Josefsson, President and CEO of Vattenfall since 2000, has served as Eurelectric Vice President for the past three years. He has been highly active in addressing the key issues facing the energy industry.

The Union of the Electricity Industry – Eurelectric – is the professional association which represents the common interests of the electricity industry at pan-European level, plus its affiliates and associates on several other continents. Eurelectric’s mission is to contribute to the development and competitiveness of the electricity industry and to promote the role of electricity in the advancement of society. Currently there are 33 Full Members, including all 27 EU Member States, current applicants negotiating to join the Community, plus other European OECD countries.

The Eurelectric President is supported by a Vice-President, also with a mandate of three years. Fulvio Conti, CEO and General Manager of Italy’s leading electricity group ENEL, was elected Vice President.
