Mark Vadasz has been appointed as new head of Vattenfall Group Media Relations. He’ll be joining the Swedish energy company from a position as head of external communications with SJ, Sweden’s national railway.

“Vattenfall is a growing company with a strong will to work proactively with communication. I look forward to helping to continue that work,” Mr Vadasz said.

Vattenfall is now one of Europe’s leading energy companies, with operations in the Nordic countries, Germany and Poland.

“Effective media communications is an increasingly important factor in a company’s success. With his background and experience, Mark Vadasz will be a valuable asset for us,” said Carolina Wallenius, head of communications at Vattenfall.

During his tenure at Telia International Carrier, Mr Vadasz built up a PR organisation that conducted PR and media relations work in 22 countries. He then spent two years as European head of communications at Amersham Plc (subsequently GE Healthcare), where he also served on the company’s crisis management team. Mr Vadasz also has several years’ experience as a communications consultant.

During his tenure at SJ, Mr Vadasz built up the company’s external communication work and put a strategy in place that succeeded in taking SJ’s positive newspaper coverage rate from 20 per cent to 80 per cent – in just two years.

“That is the work I’m most pleased with so far,” said Mr Vadasz, who will start his new job as head of public relations at Vattenfall AB on 1 August 2008.
