New generation record set by Vattenfall wind power plant Vattenfall's wind power plant Näsudden II ("Matilda") has set a new generation record for a single wind power plant. The new record, 36.63 GWh, was achieved on Saturday 13 April at 07.00. The previous record was held by the Maglarp plant in Sweden, which was owned by Sydkraft, and was set after 10 years of operation before the plant was demolished in 1993. Näsudden II managed to beat the record in only nine years. "Näsudden II, situated on the island of Gotland, is a 3 MW unit, which means that it is still one of the largest wind power plants in the world. It has a sister unit in Germany that has generated around 31 GWh so far. There was another possible competitor for the record on Hawaii, but this plant was decommissioned and demolished in 1997 after having been out of operation for long periods. It probably never came anywhere near the new record," says Jan Blix, who managed the construction of Näsudden II on behalf of Vattenfall AB.
