Over 30 companies selected to submit tenders to Vattenfall Of the over 40 companies that have registered their interest in supplying electricity meters, Vattenfall has now requested tenders from 32. A further four companies have been asked to provide additional information. There is a lot of interest internationally in supplying electricity meters to Vattenfall. Among the over 40 companies that have registered their interest, Vattenfall has now evaluated which of the suppliers meet the supply requirements and has requested tenders from just over 30 of them. These suppliers include companies from Sweden, other European countries and the USA. "We have rapidly reviewed the information received from the interested companies in order to make a quick selection of the suppliers that we will buy meters from. Speed is important, because we want to provide our customers with better service as soon as possible," says Christer Johansson, Vattenfall's Procurement Manager. A total of 300 000 meters will be procured for installation in the premises of customers that consume large amounts of electricity, for example in electrically-heated detached houses or farm buildings. Vattenfall plans to install 50 000 new meters already this year. The aim is to make things simpler for the customers and to ensure that they only pay for the electricity they have actually used up to the date on which the bill is issued, that is to do away with preliminary debiting and payment in advance. Once the new meters have been installed, bills will be based on values that Vattenfall will be able to read remotely and enter into the debiting system. This means that customers will no longer receive unexpectedly high electricity bills in connection with annual settlement. From Vattenfall's Press Office, telephone: +46 8 739 50 10. The largest electricity customers are industrial plants and energy companies. ------------------------------------------------------------ This information was brought to you by Waymaker http://www.waymaker.net The following files are available for download: http://www.waymaker.net/bitonline/2003/03/20/20040817BIT21830/wkr0001.pdf
