In line with Vattenfall’s ambition to build a strong European energy brand, the company has now decided to work long-term with two of the best agencies on the market: the creative agency, DDB and the media agency, IUM. This opens the way for the Vattenfall Group to put focus on and develop the cooperation between the eight markets that the company operates in with the aim of strengthening the Vattenfall brand.

DDB and IUM will begin working with Vattenfall from 1 April and the contract covers a period of 2 years with an extension option. Since autumn 2010 Vattenfall has carried out its own European tendering process with the aim of selecting two agencies for the entire Group, one for advertising and one for media.

”Vattenfall has decided to form a partnership with DDB and IUM after undergoing tendering procedures with a number of the world’s leading agencies. They are our new partners in creating an international brand with a European focus, strengthening the cooperation between the Group’s different markets and consolidating brand communication,” says Elisabeth Ström, Head of Communications at Vattenfall.

Through open European tendering procedures, Vattenfall has sought after a comprehensive network of media agencies and advertising agencies that are in a position to work with us all over Europe within all business areas in our eight markets. Vattenfall’s purchasing and communications departments have carried out the procurement.

”It was important for us to carry out a transparent and fair procurement with the aim of identifying the two agencies that best suit Vattenfall’s needs from a European perspective. At the final stages of the tendering process, we chose from five creative agencies and four media agencies. When the decision was made, we visited all the agencies on the shortlist to offer and receive feedback on the process and notify them of our decision,” says Linus Almqvist, Head of Brand Communications and Partnerships at Vattenfall.

”It is really exciting to be given the opportunity to be involved in the development of Vattenfall’s communication both in Sweden and abroad. It is a company driven by innovation with major ambitions and this is obviously also the case with its communications efforts,” says Andreas Dahlqvist, Executive Creative Director, Managing Partner DDB Stockholm.

”It is extremely gratifying and exciting to be entrusted with the task of being Vattenfall’s media agency partner and take part in the development of marketing communication in close collaboration with Vattenfall and DDB,” says Urban Hilding CEO, IUM.

“I´m looking forward to working with our new partners in order to enable people to power their everyday lives. At Vattenfall we want to place the customer at the heart of everything we do,” says Ilse Lasschuijt, Head of Marketing Business Division Distribution & Sales.

”It was hard to discontinue our partnership with OMD and Lowe Brindfors after so many years and we would like to express our gratitude for the very professional and rewarding partnership, not in the least the skiing sponsorship for which our latest advertising film was launched this week,” says Linus Almqvist.
