For the fifth consecutive year Vattenfall today published a comprehensive sustainability report describing the Group’s activities during 2007. In a recent review by the Swedish business magazine Veckans Affärer, comparing the CSR reports from ten major listed companies and five state-owned companies in Sweden, Vattenfall’s report ranked as outstanding.

The report addresses the most important issues that Vattenfall currently faces with respect to the environment and social responsibility: climate change, future investments in sustainable energy generation, responsible procurement practices and transparency and trust.

In his introduction to the report Vattenfall’s CEO Lars G. Josefsson says,

“Access to energy is a prerequisite for sustainable development; it is our job and our responsibility to provide energy solutions that meet our customers’ needs. Such solutions must contribute to sustainable development and include consideration for the environment, customers, employees and society in general.”

Commenting upon the comparative study made by Veckans Affärer, Åsa Pettersson, CSR Manager, says:

“We are happy that once again an external study confirms that our communication is open and transparent and thus corresponds to Vattenfall’s high ambitions in this field. The study does not take a stand on the companies’ operations as such, but focuses on how easily these can be evaluated from the information provided in their reports. Our report does contain the essentials, so people can themselves take a stand to what we do and how we do it.”

Vattenfall has earlier been awarded a prize for best CSR-report by FAR SRS, the professional institute for the accountancy sector in Sweden.
