Vattenfall’s trading unit changed name to Vattenfall Energy Trading

Vattenfall Trading Services has changed its name to Vattenfall Energy Trading. “We have grown from an electricity trading unit, based in Hamburg and Stockholm, to a European energy trading unit which covers all commodities and regions in which Vattenfall is active in. The merger of Vattenfall Trading and Nuon Energy Trade & Wholesale has taken our business to the next level. Our new name reflects this broad range of activities,” says Stephen Asplin, Head of Vattenfall Energy Trading. Vattenfall Energy Trading is the central trading platform of the Vattenfall group. “Our main task is to miti-gate and transfer Vattenfall’s energy and commodity-related risks to the market,” says Asplin. The Trading unit is active along the whole energy value chain: in sourcing of gas, coal, oil, and carbon credits, trades physical and financial commodities, and provides portfolio and risk management services. “By merging the two trading units, we can build on an expanded geographical presence, deeper market knowledge, and a more diversified sourcing strategy. Our combined strengths are the basis for increased customer value, fulfilling the targets for sustainable energy and continuous business growth,” Asplin adds. Vattenfall Energy Trading runs its operations across Europe with offices in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Stockholm, and Warsaw and about 400 employees. While the renaming of entities in Copenha-gen, Hamburg, and Stockholm has been completed, the name change of the entity in Warsaw will follow soon. Trading in Amsterdam, which has been part of Vattenfall’s trading unit since the Nuon-merger on 1 July, will continue to operate under its name Nuon Energy Trade & Wholesale for the time being.
