Vattenfall sells power companies in Peru Vattenfall has now concluded the sale of its assets in Peru to the American energy company NRG Energy, Inc. Vattenfall's subsidiary Nordic Power Invest AB (NPI) is selling its holdings in two Peruvian assets, i.e. approximately 60 per cent of Cahua S.A. and 100 per cent of Cementos Norte Pacasmayo (CNP) S.A. to the American energy company NRG Energy, Inc. "Vattenfall has owned the plants for about a year and the deal gives the company a very good return on the capital it has invested," says Hans Lundgren, Vice President of NPI. Cahua has a generation capacity of 45 MW of hydro power, while CNP has a generation capacity of 66 MW based on hydro power and diesel-driven thermal power. The deal is part of Vattenfall's strategy to focus on its core operations and concentrate on the northern European market. Earlier this year, NPI also sold assets in Bolivia and Brazil to NRG Energy (see the Vattenfall press release dated 5 June 2001). Skanska, another company that invested in Cahua S.A. last year, will also now sell its holdings in this company to NRG Energy. From Vattenfall's Press Office, telephone: 08-739 50 10.
