Veg of Lund expands its patent portfolio by applying for a Swedish patent for the product and method of producing a so-called meat analogue, which is a vegetable alternative to red and white meat. The company already has patents for its potato drink and smoothie sold under the name DUG, as well as for its plant-based ice cream and cream products.

The company’s development of food products based on potatoes is led by Eva Tornberg, the company’s Head of Research & Development. Eva Tornberg is one of the founders of Veg of Lund and her knowledge of emulsions is the key to the company’s plant-based foods that are rich in omega 3 fatty acids and free from the 14 most common allergens listed by the Swedish Food Agency.

Veg of Lund’s patent portfolio includes approved patents for the company’s potato drink in Sweden, the rest of Europe, the USA and Canada, as well as potato-based smoothies and ice cream and cream in Sweden. With the patent application for a plant-based meat analogue, Veg of Lund secures its position in the ongoing commercial discussions the company has with different partners.

“The patent for the meat analogue is extensive and I am proud of our fundamental development work. The patent secures our unique competence and is important when we are going to commercialize our meat alternative,” says Eva Tornberg, founder and Head of R&D, Veg of Lund.
