110 First-Home Flats Sold in Three Hours

The final proof that there is a high demand for housing for young people came on Tuesday 12 March when the Startbo flats in Trondheim were opened for sale. 110 flats were sold in less than three hours.

Mr. Halstein Kvisvik, Managing Director of Startbo, is very pleased. "It's like magic to us and the young people who had the opportunity to buy flats. Not many thought it would be possible to sell all the flats, but this demonstrates how extensive the problem is and how great the housing shortage really is, says Mr. Halstein Kvisvik.

Startbo is now working to secure land for the next Startbo project and has started talks with more than 30 municipalities about development of the concept. The Startbo flats are organised in housing cooperatives with age limited terms for buying a share. Low interest costs and a tax free income from the rental section will give young people a financial push in their establishing stage.

Halstein Kvisvik is convinced that the demand for Startbo flats is just as high in other parts of the country. "In order to find land for the construction of more accommodation for the young, it is now important to have discussions with the different municipalities all over the country," he says.
