The Hospital Development Project for Central Norway has signed a contract with Veidekke Entreprenør for the building of the Knowledge Centre at St. Olav's Hospital in Trondheim. The building will be 19,000m2 and the last centre at the new hospital. This will be a turnkey contract for the new building, valued at NOK 303 million excluding VAT.

The Knowledge Centre, which is due to be completed in autumn 2013, will be the central building for research and teaching. The hospital area covers infectious diseases and skin and pain treatment. NTNU's institute for cancer research and molecular medicine will be based in the Knowledge Centre, which will also include a large and a smaller auditorium, as well as the university hospital's main library. The hospital's internal teaching will also be based in the Knowledge Centre.

The old high rise building will be demolished before building starts in May 2011. Another Veidekke company, Dokken AS, had already won the demolition contract. Demolition starts next week.

"We are very proud of the confidence that the Hospital Development Project has shown in us. In the bidding competition we have really shown the worth of our expertise and interaction through what we call Involvement Planning and in building low energy buildings. We will be able to carry forward our experience from the eco-friendly Miljøbygget, which was Building of the Year in 2009, and together with the Hospital Development Project we shall develop the use of three dimensional planning in our working methods," says Ståle Brovold, District Manager of Veidekke Entreprenør in Trondheim.

Veidekke is also building the Trondheim Clinic at St. Olav's Hospital, where the regional substance abuse treatment organisation Rusbehandling Midt-Norge will rent premises. Veidekke is also currently starting construction of Finalebanen P-Hus, an underground car park for the hospital. This contract, which is worth NOK 42 million, was won before Easter.
