The Directorate of Public Construction and Property has awarded the contract for the foundation work for the new opera house in Oslo to Veidekke Entreprenør AS. The tender price is approximately NOK 207 million excl. VAT.
The contract includes extensive excavation and concrete work up to 2.6 metres above sea level. The work will be carried out partly in the water and partly from a platform in a drained, sheet-piled construction pit under sea level. A total of about 40,000 m3 of excavated material will be removed from the pit.

Approximately 30,000 m3 of concrete will be needed for the base under the building and quay for outdoor areas. About 20,000 metres of different types of piling will form the load-bearing structures. Extensive foundation and piling work will be required in the area where the main stage is to be located, as parts of the main stage will be built down to about 13 metres under sea level.

The work will start on 1 September and is planned to take 21 months.
