Major contract for Veidekke
Veidekke has been awarded the contract to build the important project VIA in Vika in Oslo city centre for Storebrand and Aspelin Ramm. The contract involves demolishing the current buildings at Ruseløkkveien 26 (House of Oslo) and building an environmentally certified 13-storey commercial building with offices, retail, services and hospitality.
"We're very pleased to have won the contract and being entrusted to build VIA. This will be a state of the art commercial building with regard to interior, exterior, flexibility and the environment, located in what perhaps is Oslo's best business district. VIA will be one of the largest projects we have built in Oslo city centre, and we're looking forward to starting construction," says CEO and President Arne Giske of Veidekke.
VIA will comprise two buildings totalling approximately 62,500 m2 with a shared courtyard. The north building will have offices from the third to the thirteenth floor, while the south building will have the same from the third to eleventh floor. The lower floors will have a diverse range of retail services and a good selection of restaurants and cafés.
The environment and sustainability are key to the project, which will be certified in accordance with the BREEAM-NOR Excellent standard. VIA will be a model project for efficient energy management and sustainable solutions with regard to materials, technology and design, including solar panels on the roof. The building is designed for the lowest possible environmental impact and efficient space utilization for smart and optimal operation. Modern technology in intelligent interaction with architecture will exploit light and air to provide a good indoor environment.
Veidekke will demolish the current buildings, erect the new buildings and upgrade the existing parking facility in a design and build contract. Demolition work starts in the summer, and the project is scheduled for completion in the autumn of 2021. Subject to agreement with the customer, the final contract price will not be made public.
