Veidekke has signed a contract for expansion work in connection with the road system surrounding Norway Trade Fairs' new congress and exhibition centre in Lillestrøm.

The contract
The contract encompasses expansion of an existing road system, including entry and exit roads, as well as an underground bicycling and foot path. In addition to this, a roundabout will also be built.

"We are pleased that Veidekke, as a Norwegian contractor, has offered the best quality and price, says Mr. Nitter Foss. "In December 2000, Veidekke was awarded the contract to build the new exibition centre. Having the same contractor for these works as for the exhibition building makes the construction process more efficient," he adds.

The construction work will start in August this year, and will be finished in July 2001. The contract value is 26.3 NOK million.

Norway trade fairs
The new congress and exhibition centre has a total floor area of 50,000 m2, with 30,000 m2 allocated for exhibition purposes.

"With the new congress and exhibition centre in Lillestrøm, we will have considerably bigger areas on one floor than we have today," says Mr. Nitter Foss. "This will allow us to arrange large conferences in combination with large exhibitions," he explains.

Sjølyst
At the old exhibition site at Sjølyst in Oslo, Veidekke and OBOS (a housing association) are going to build 500 new flats. There are also plans for 40,000 m2 commercial space, mainly offices and shops. Sjølyststranda, which is the name of the project, has a unique location on the Oslo fjord. An environmental span (enclosure) over the highway, E18, has been planned. This will reduce both air and dust pollution while providing a view of the fjord, undisturbed by traffic.
