A consortium, which includes Veidekke ASA and Arkil-Novejfa I/S, has been awarded the contract for the construction of Østamagerbanen (the East Amager Metro), which is the third stage of development of the Copenhagen metro. The contract price is 511 million DKK, of which Veidekke's has a 50 per cent share.
The new contract involves construction of 4.1 km of double tracks from the Lergrav Park to the airport of Copenhagen, including five metro stations, railway and highway bridges as well as subways and access bridges for pedestrians and cyclists. This contract is different from previous metro contracts in as much as it does not include tunnelling work.

Construction start has been scheduled for 1 November 2003, and the main part of the project will be completed by the end of 2005.

Years of experience from construction combined with close cooperation and focus on the partners' top competencies have contributed to securing the contract for the consortium. For Veidekke, the project involves a joint venture between the Group's Danish company, Hoffmann A/S, and the heavy construction division in Norway. Veidekke's partner in the consortium, Arkil-Novejfa, which again is a joint venture between Ove Arkil A/S and Colas Novejfa A/S, has special competence within foundation work and line technology. Veidekke represents expertise within concrete work, earth removal and soil preparation.

"We have worked on this project for a year and a half, and we are very pleased that this cooperation has been fruitful. We are now looking forward to start working, says Regional Manager Mogens Hansen of Hoffmann, who is also chairman of the board of the consortium.
