Veidekke: Building parking garages and student dormitories at Gjøvik
Gjøvik Municipality and Sit have today entered into an agreement with Veidekke to build a parking garage for 180 cars with 245 student apartments in two blocks above. The assignment in Røverdalen in Gjøvik is a design and build contract valued at approximately NOK 320 million excluding VAT.
"We are of course both happy and proud that we have won the competition for this assignment, which has been worked on for a long time now. Good student housing and infrastructure are important to many in Gjøvik, and we are already building 98 student apartments for Sit at Kallerud. We are grateful for the renewed confidence and look forward to continuing our good cooperation, now also with the municipality,” says district manager Geirmund Østvold of Veidekke Bygg Indre Østland.
The project includes the construction of a two-level parking garage, partly underground, of approximately 5,500 m2 and two eight-storey buildings of 7,000 m2 totally with 245 student apartments. The use of wood in outer walls and solid wood in load-bearing structures will help reduce CO2 emissions from the buildings. Emphasis has also been placed on good outdoor areas around the project, which will be suitable for social activity for the students.
Design work will start in January, while construction is scheduled to start in May with completion for the start of the autumn semester in 2026. The commission is included in Veidekke’s order book for the fourth quarter.
